Jeremiah 8:221: Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? Why, then, is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?
Meditation: Balm of Gilead was a rare perfume used medicinally named for the region of Gilead where it was produced and has come to signify a universal cure in figurative speech. As the song goes, “There is a balm in Gilead to make the wounded whole. There is a balm in Gilead to heal the sin sick soul.” Jesus Christ is the only balm that can heal our sin sickness. Jesus is our Great Physician.
Prayer: Dear Jesus, you said yourself that only the sick need a physician and that you came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. Please heal the sin-sick souls before it’s everlastingly too late. Amen.
